The Community Needs Assessment Survey is designed to identify the most important issues that you would like to see United Way of Central WV involved in addressing within our six-county region of Boone, Braxton, Clay, Kanawha, Logan and Putnam Counties.

United Way's Board of Directors, Community Investment Committee and staff will use your responses to determine issues that impact Health, Education, Financial Stability and Safety Net (basic needs) outcomes in our region and the best way to secure resources (giving, advocating and/or volunteering) to meet these needs.
While completing the survey, you will have the ability to move page-to-page and return earlier sections to review your response. Once the survey is submitted, you will no longer have access to it.

United Way of Central West Virginia awards grants to nonprofit agencies located in Kanawha, Putnam, Logan, Clay, Boone, and Braxton counties. The funded programs must address one of four broad-based community impact areas: Education, Health, Financial Stability and Safety Net.

Health
- Alcohol and Drug Abuse
- Affordable mental health and trauma care
- Affordable health and dental care and prescription medication
- Nutrition, fitness and healthy lifestyle habits
Financial Stability
- Personal financial management
- Vocational/trade school or other employment skills training
- Dependable child care/adult care for employment
- Grandparent/kinship care
- Access to transportation
Education
- Affordable quality day care
- Reducing truancy and graduating high school on time
- After-school and extracurricular activities for youth
- Education for low-income adults
- Higher education tuition assistance
Safety Net
- Shelter/emergency beds/services including transitional housing assistance
- Domestic violence and child abuse services
- Access to healthy food and/or meals
- Affordable, quality permanent housing assistance
- Senior assistance including home modifications
How the Funding Process Works
United Way of Central WV's funding decisions are made through an annual competitive application process in order to direct grant funding to high-performing programs that are the most closely aligned with United Way's impact areas: education, health, financial stability and safety net (basic needs). Citizen Review Teams, made up of trained community volunteers, review the Community Impact Grants, conduct site visits and make fund allocation recommendations to United Way's Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for all final funding decisions. Organizations receiving funds are accountable for the responsible use of those funds and must file must file mid-year and final reports measuring their service impact.
