Works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and mortality through maternal and child health community programs, advocacy, research, education and annual program grants awards. Statewide campaign to promote folic acid consumption before pregnancy among women of childbearing age to prevent up to 70% of neural tube defects. Research into the causes and prevention for prematurity and genetic birth defects.
