Representatives from United Way of Central West Virginia announced that the community had exceeded the goal of its annual work place giving campaign, raising $2,848,209 in 2007. That tops the amount raised in 2006 by more than $120,000. Over the past four years, donor contributions through United Way of Central West Virginia have totaled nearly $11 million.

“As a result of last-minute efforts on the community’s behalf, we have met and exceeded our goal for the second year in a row,” said United Way President and Chief Professional Officer John M. Ballengee. “In sports, they may call that a dynasty. In Central West Virginia, we call that caring for our neighbors. We are blessed to have a community of generous all stars on our team.”

United Way Campaign Director Janice Amspoker pointed to several key factors that played a significant role in the organization's success. “The campaign was driven by the success of the Pacesetter Campaign, which raised more than $1.1 million,” Amspoker said. “Their success confirms that, even in uncertain times, our community continues to understand the importance of United Way and its impact on those in need.” Other key factors were increased contributions in nine of 11 campaign categories, as well as new dollars from companies that hadn’t previously participated in a United Way campaign.
